Happy Little Tree

"Bonsaaaaiiiiii", by Prudence Bonds, 2010, personal art collection

Well, it’s not really little.  This piece is three panels and measures 6′x4′, total.  And, honestly, it took a few days for the finished product to become “happy,” since the challenge of painting while almost seven months pregnant sapped a little joy from the process (read: carpal tunnel + big belly).  The burgundy bonsai now lives on the main wall in my living room next to the TV.

The Cure

“Zenith” by © Prudence Bonds – 24x36 inches, acrylic on canvas, 2010

I’ve decided that part of curing months of on-and-off artist’s block and lack of inspiration is to start afresh.  A creative cleanse, of sorts.  So, out with the old, in with the new (hopefully).

I’m selling everything.  EVERYTHING.  You have the freedom to set your own price, so go crazy! Two rules: (1) larger pieces measuring 36″ in any direction will be at least $100.  Everything else is fully negotiable. (2) Shipping is extra.  There’s no charge for picking up artwork directly from me.

I Heart Abdi

Abdi Farah, 2010

If you’ve been following Work of Art on Bravo, you know that Abdi Farah won.  He was always my favorite and it was nice to see his work evolve over the brief course of the show.  It’s nice to see someone with so much talent and such a positive attitude win such an amazing prize – his own show at the Brooklyn Museum, which runs from August 14 – October 17th, and $100,000!  Very nice.

In Progress

In Progress work

I finally got around to starting new work.  I’ve been lazy/pregnant/uninspired over the past few months.  The in-progress piece above is inspired by the second image in this post.  I’m really looking forward to the process of layering the colors, making them richer and deeper.  So far, so good.

Rejection 2.0

Hey, you look familiar. You’re rejection, right? I learned today that “Unfortunately, you have not been selected to participate in the show”  – I understand, and I’ll submit to future shows at this particular location and use rejection as a motivator, but it still sucks. Oh well.
